Student Profiles
Aaron Strout
For Aaron Strout, RN, one of the best parts of being a student at CMMC’s
College of Nursing and Health Professions was sharing the experience with
others with the same goal. “The camaraderie with the other students was a
great part of the program,” he says.
The nursing program prepared him very well for his career, he notes. For
example, when he took his state nursing licensing exam, “I didn’t feel
surprised by anything,” he says. He passed with flying colors and now works
in CMMC’s Intensive Care Unit. The college “…packed a lot into two years,”
he says, and it was well worth it. Because now, as he says, “I am happily
employed.”
Kristin Linindoll
Kristin Linindoll, RN, says that thanks to the training she received in
CMMC’s College of Nursing and Health Professions, she has been able to
create a successful career as an intensive care unit nurse. It’s a
demanding job, but she notes: “I was very prepared, mentally.” She works
full-time as an ICU nurse in Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway, and also
works per diem for Bridgton Hospital.
“The clinical rotation that CMMC puts together for their students certainly
prepares them to forge ahead,” Kristin says. “Nothing has been a total
surprise for me.
Kristin comes from a family of nurses, and her daughter is now
enrolled as a student in the CMMC program. She says the college exceeded her
expectations and she is glad it was rigorous and thorough. Now she has the
life she wanted. “I have a lovely career,” says Kristin. “I love my job.”
Shannon Packard
Life has come full circle for Shannon Packard. Shannon graduated from CMMC’s
College of Nursing and Health Professions in 1997; today she is an
instructor for the college.
Shannon says her two years in the nursing program were an important first
step for a career she is still creating. “I had a great experience,” she
says. The exceptional attention from the faculty and the clinical experience
prepared her well, Shannon says. “The faculty wanted you to succeed,” she
says. And Shannon has been very successful: she has worked in the
cardiopulmonary unit at CMMC, in ICU and in maternity units at Rumford
Hospital, and then as a clinical coordinator at CMMC. Currently she is the
campus lab and simulation coordinator at the college.
After graduating from CMMC’s program with an associate’s degree, Shannon
earned a B.A. in nursing from USM and her master’s degree from the
University of Phoenix. What’s next for this ambitious woman? She’s started
working towards her doctorate in healthcare administration, which she plans
to finish by 2012.
Ariana Libby
Since graduating from Central Maine Medical Center’s College of Nursing and
Health Professions in 2008, Ariana Libby’s life has been extremely busy.
But it’s busy in a good way. After graduation, Ariana began working full
time as a nurse on the orthopedic-trauma-neurology floor at Maine Medical
Center in Portland. She’s also going to school full-time, as she works
towards her goal of becoming a psychiatric nurse practitioner.
Ariana credits her education at CMMC with helping to make this all possible.
“It’s a very challenging program – and it really did pay off,” she says.
Because of the excellent attention she received from instructors and the
hands-on clinical experience, “I felt competent,” she says.
Before attending CMMC’s college, Ariana had worked as a CNA for four years
at Maine Med. Now she owns a house near the hospital and has a job that
brings many responsibilities. She credits the college for helping her handle
that job well. “When I started as a nurse, I had confidence,” she says.
